Salt Air and Storytelling: A Recap of a Busy April
Hello everyone,
They say April showers bring May flowers, but around here, April felt more like a whirlwind of coastal roads, library halls, and the incredible community that keeps the Red At Night series moving forward.
The View from the Stern
Growing up as a sternman for my father, I learned early on that you don’t wait for the weather to clear to get the work done. I’ve been applying that same blue-collar mentality to the outreach for the series, and it’s finally paying off in a big way.
I’m thrilled to share that the Red At Night series is officially heading West! We’ve secured shelf space in several independent bookstores and shops across Colorado, Montana, and even out in Las Vegas. It’s an incredible feeling to know that stories born in a Maine lobstering community will soon be sitting on shelves near the Rockies and in the desert.
But as much as I love seeing the books travel, my heart remains right here on the coast. I’m currently working hard to get the series into even more local Maine bookstores and gift shops. Whether it’s a small island shop or a mainland boutique, I want to make sure these stories are available in the very places that inspired them. If you have a favorite local spot that you think should carry the series, let me know—I’m always looking for new Maine partners to team up with.
Reflecting on the Road
This past month was one for the books—literally. From the quiet shores near Schooner Cove to the bustling energy of the Scarborough Library, getting out to meet you all in person remains the best part of this job.
The highlight of the month was my return to the Baxter Memorial Library in Gorham. Standing there, sharing the history and the heart behind the maritime culture I grew up in, reminded me exactly why I started writing these stories in the first place.
Catch Me on the Coast: Summer 2026
I’m keeping the engine running through the summer with several upcoming talks and events. I’d love to see you at one of these stops:

A Note for Mother’s Day
I almost let it slip past me, but Mother’s Day is right around the corner! If you’re looking for a gift that’s a bit more lasting than a bouquet, the Red At Night series is a great way to show some appreciation. These stories are built on the same grit and heart that define the coastal families I grew up with. Whether the mom in your life is a die-hard mystery fan or just misses the smell of the salt air, a trip to the Maine coast through these pages is a great way to help her kick back and relax this month.
Looking Ahead
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’ve picked up a copy of First Light or Red In The Morning recently, I’d love to hear what you think. Your support is what makes this expansion possible.
See you out there on the coast!
Fair winds,
