A Classic Maine Voice Meets Modern Magic

As a fellow Maine author, I’m always on the lookout for books that capture our state's spirit, but Jon Shannon took things in a completely unexpected and fantastic direction with Treasure of the American Dragon. 

What immediately grabbed me is how grounded the story feels, even when high fantasy chaos takes over. Wilder Blackwood is a great, relatable protagonist—he’s just a guy trying to navigate life who happens to get dragged into saving the world alongside a trio of eccentric old wizards. But the real star of the show has to be Bocephus, his grumpy "dog" who is actually a centuries-old dragon in disguise. The banter and dynamic between Wilder and Bo carry a real humor and heart that kept me turning pages. 

Shannon brings his natural storytelling skills to the page with sharp pacing, great local flavor, and a fun blend of Dresden Files magic mixed with genuine down-to-earth humor. It’s practical, funny, and filled with plenty of mayhem. 

If you like Urban Fantasy with great character dynamics, sharp wit, and a strong sense of place, give this one a read. I'm already looking forward to diving into the next installment of The Wilder Chronicles.
