October

Welcome Fall!

While fall technically arrived in September, Maine’s Blue-Collar Author officially welcomed the season on Saturday, October 3 with a book launch bash for Last Light.  Held at Brady’s Restaurant in Boothbay Harbor, the 4:00 pm start time found many attendees listening to the music of Brett Slater, enjoy snacks provided by the Brady’s team, and patiently waiting in line to purchase books and have them signed not only by the author, but by two featured characters as well.  Clive Farrin is familiar to Red at Night series readers and this event gave those readers an opportunity to meet the man in person.  Also in attendance was a major character from Last Light, Earl Brewer.  For those of you who haven’t read the book yet, no spoilers are offered but suffice it to say, Earl was dressed in character.

So many fantastic author/reader interactions occurred at the launch party but the author’s favorite by far were the interactions with those readers who brought along well-loved copies of their Red at Night, Red in the Morning, and/or First Light to be signed.  These books had loose bindings, folded down pages, and well-worn covers to demonstrate that they had been read several times…that’s a huge compliment for an author to know that he has written a story that readers want to enjoy again and again.

Another huge hit of the day was the “lobster crates” designed and hand crafted by Red at Night series beta reader, Mark Webster.  These crates hold the hardcover, four book series.  Three sets were on hand at the party and were gone in minutes, with attendees asking how they could purchase one.  Lucky for all of us, Mark has graciously agreed to build more and they are available right here on this website, at the Bookstore   Sales of these sets, along with copies of Last Light and the rest of the series has helped push total books sold to 4,135…not bad for a self-published author!  A recap of the launch party is available in the Boothbay Register…thank you for your support!

Speaking of sales…. while October is the “spooky” month, the “gift giving” month is right around the corner and what better gift to place under the tree than the Red at Night series.  Check out the bookstore for some great options, including the crate set.   There will be some holiday sales coming up so, if you aren’t already signed up to receive news and updates, make sure you enroll here to be notified of holiday sales.  A final word on the topic of the holidays and sales.... rumor has it that there may be an in-person holiday visit (kind of like Santa) to Boothbay Harbor during the town’s holiday festivities. Check out the November blog for information on this as plans are still being confirmed.

Finally, as the Red at Night series comes to a close with Last Light, work has begun on the next series.  A sneak peek reveals that it focuses on Lizzy Williams but does handle a bit of housekeeping from the Red at Night series.  Come back to the monthly blog for updates on the progress and maybe a few excerpts!

Thanks for reading and, if you’ve finished any of the books, please leave a review on Amazon; reviews help garner the attention and consideration of media moguls who might be looking for the next blockbuster movie!
